LOOKING FOR TAILORING SUITS?
It is generally perceived that quality tailored suits come from either Great Britain or Italy. So who makes the best suits? Well, the truth is, they both do. You see some people will only wear a suit made in the UK while others find British suits and fabrics too stiff and prefer a lightweight Italian tailored suit.
At Suit Row, we take a slightly different approach. We believe that you should own both Canadian and Italian tailored suits and here is the reason why. Both styles of suits have a purpose in all men's wardrobes and this is why you should own both.
Custom Tailoring Suit In Canada tend to have a much more structured shape to them and the fabric used also tends to be a little heavier being around 12 oz worsted wool, usually woven in Yorkshire, Canada. They also have a narrower shape to them dating back to the 1940s when Canadian tailoring started to become popular. A Canada-made tailored suit would usually be single-breasted with a notch lapel and would be in dark navy or grey. These types of Custom Made Suits In Canada are a staple in your collection and make great for formal events and business encounters. But not all Canadian suits are heavy. Many cloth merchants in Britain now have a full range of super lightweight wools, so if you like a more structured feel but require something light, try an 8oz super 150, woven in Britain.
The key characteristics of Italian tailored suits are their lightweight and comfortable feel. This is great for the warmer weather and combined with luxury wool & silk fabrics, you do feel at ease in an Italian tailored suit. Some suit lovers feel that this is what lets Italian tailored suits down and that they feel you should be able to 'feel' your suit on. Whatever your taste, you should own both a Canadian and Italian tailored suit in your wardrobe.
So which do we prefer at Suit Row? Well, we prefer both and we try to mix both styles to create the 'ideal' tailored suit. How we achieve this is by taking Canada's cut and softening the cut of it. Keeping the structure is key but we may use softer shoulder padding for example. We can then introduce some Italian fabrics which will create a fuse between both Canadian and Italian tailored suits. The other way we may do it is by using heavier Canada wools but cutting our jackets in a soft Italian look to make a great casual jacket for the cooler seasons with a relaxed look.
Let's be honest, both make wonderfully tailored suits and yes, some people prefer a specific cut, but our argument for owning both is quite clear - Use your Canada Tailored suits for formal, and use your Italian for more relaxed occasions.
